Testimonies of Healing
“You had better be prepared for a long stay. ” The medical nurse’s words were designed to jolt my wife and me into recognizing the seriousness of the situation.
I would like to share a healing I experienced about ten years ago. I don’t know what the problem was, but one day my body seemed to shut down.
Early in my teaching career, I decided to take some time off from teaching in order to pursue an MBA degree full time. I enrolled in an excellent program in a different state that would require an 100-mile round trip by car to attend classes that met in the late afternoon until night.
The joy I was experiencing could not be contained! It was springtime, and my husband and I were driving through the countryside. I had enjoyed the area’s scenery before, but now, it was as though I were seeing it for the first time.
Some years ago , our family decided to purchase an older horse so my husband at the time (not my current husband) could join the children and me on rides. The owner planned to bring him to us on a Saturday, but when Saturday morning came around, he called to let us know that the horse had a serious eye infection.
This passage from Psalms came to me when I reached out to God at a time when I wasn’t sure if I would live: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord” ( 118:17 ). It was the summer of 2005, and I was losing the ability to grasp objects and experiencing trouble walking.
The author experienced healing as she recognized her identity as the perfect and unchanging daughter of God.
When I was expecting our first child, I chose a kind and respectful obstetrician who was happy to work with patients who practiced Christian Science, and I had a harmonious birth experience. By the time our second child was on the way, my husband and I had moved to another city, so I chose a midwife whom a friend recommended.
According to the Bible , health comes from God. In Psalms 42:11 we read, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
One Wednesday evening several years ago, I gave a testimony at my local Christian Science branch church. I discussed how our thought can be healed about the past and thus painful memories can be eliminated and stop reoccurring in our thoughts.
