One night as I was getting ready to go to bed, I suddenly felt very ill. I have no idea what the problem was, but it caused a great deal of discomfort internally. The temptation was to try to figure out what the physical ailment was, but as a student of Christian Science I’ve learned from a lifetime of healing through prayer that a physical diagnosis isn’t needed.
In the Christian Science textbook by Mary Baker Eddy we read, “The starting-point of divine Science is that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, and that there is no other might nor Mind,—that God is Love, and therefore He is divine Principle” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 275).
That starting point, the allness of God, good, and our oneness with good, was where I began my prayer. And my prayer in this case was simple: “God, help me.” The help that came was a prompting to call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment.
