Every morning I delight in hearing my teenage children talking, listening to each other, laughing, enjoying each other. This is reason for particular gratitude because during their younger years they fought on a regular basis, even though they definitely loved each other. My not reacting would help to calm tensions, but that wasn’t enough to truly solve anything.
What truly brought healing was understanding that there is in fact one Mind, God, who unites and governs everyone. This Mind permits no enmity, leaves no room for opposition. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love” (p. 467).
Our family found that with a willingness to surrender willfulness and to trust in the love of divine Love, harmony very naturally was present where inharmony had been; and real affection now manifests itself every day. The fable of unavoidable discord between brother and sister was reversed and the fact of present and supreme divine Love was witnessed.
