In urban areas, one of the most precious things—and often one of the rarest—is housing. Many people living in urban areas around the world don’t have access to safe housing.

I was very excited when our family bought a car with a GPS in it. Soon after our purchase, we drove to a familiar city about two hours away.

The Bible cites two incidents where the disciples, while fishing, had been unable to catch anything until Christ Jesus arrived on the scene and instructed them on what to do. They listened to him and obediently followed his words and then were overwhelmed with the number of fish caught (see Luke 5:4–6 and John 21:2–6 ).

A few years ago I volunteered at the local elementary school, working with children who were having difficulty learning to read. The teacher gave me simple stories, and the children were to read them for me over and over, so that they mastered the stories and gained confidence in their reading abilities.

The first barometers, which were available to individuals starting in the 17th century, used mercury. Though another type of barometer is more common today, mercury barometers are still in use in many places.

In an age when most church congregations across denominations are reportedly dwindling, my wife and I were grateful to find a Christian Science church open for a Sunday service during a recent trip to Illinois from our hometown in Texas. While talking to two church members in Illinois who belong to different branches of The Mother Church—The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston—I thanked them sincerely for their service and for keeping the doors open despite their relatively small congregations.

We prefer precision. We want to know what time our plane flight takes off, the location of our next meeting, who our next schoolteacher will be.

Water is absolutely vital to us—human life can’t exist without it. In some parts of the world, women and children walk huge distances every day to get it.
