I am now a "snowbird. " This winter, while we were in Florida, I became extremely uncomfortable with a back problem.

In 1986 a few friends and I started a Christian Science group. The services were conducted at my home.
A few years ago I started to have several physical problems that seemed to be overwhelming to me. Depression, fear, and abnormal eating habits were disrupting my life.
At the time, I was not really close to any religion. My wife, a lifelong Christian Scientist, and I were parents of an eighteen-month-old baby girl.
" The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love" ( Science and Health , p. 1 ).
For many years I feared what might become of me if my parents or husband ever passed away. I was so dependent on them for everything.
It happened on a Sunday in December, on my way to church. I felt calm and poised, and was looking forward to conducting the church service.
When we were fairly new students of Christian Science, one of our little boys severely injured his finger—the tip of it was severed by a paper cutter at school. Our son was brought home, and when I saw him, for a moment I didn't know what to do —to take him to our former doctor or to call a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer.
I called a Christian Science practitioner and said, "I am basically a very happy person, but the pressures of business and church work with which my husband is involved make him a heavily burdened individual. If only he would lighten up, then I would be completely happy and life would go along easily.
