It is through the understanding of Christian Science as taught by Mrs. Eddy that I am living to-day. I had reached that stage where the physician said I was dying and would probably be gone in an hour's time, and I knew from my own feelings it was true. Portions of the body had turned black from congestion of the stomach and bowels. The physician said, "Nothing in this world can save her, she is beyond all human aid," and I was. My friends told me this afterwards. I knew it was time to take my stand for Christian Science.
Through the kindness of one of the practitioners I had been enabled to procure a copy of Science and Health, feeling all the time that I was paying a fortune for it. I asked that this book be brought to my bedside and a practitioner sent for. I opened the "little book" at page 317, and read the sweetest message ever told. "'If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you;' 'Lo, I am with you always,—that is, not only in all time, but in all ways and conditions."
Science and Health had gained considerable in value by this time. Error seemed to say I was not to have a practitioner, but a dear friend read page 151 and the scientific statement of being until his arrival. After the first thirty-six hours I commenced to improve, and in three weeks I was on the street in a snowstorm and rode twenty-two miles in a street car without any ill effects.
