I desire to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. About six years ago I was seriously injured internally. For three years I was under the care of some of the best physicians and surgeons in California (seven in San Jose, two in Pacific Grove, and finally the staff of one of the leading hospitals in San Francisco). I was operated on many times, and constantly suffered the most intense agony, but after each operation my condition became more hopeless and desperate. To allay the pain I was given the most powerful narcotics and opiates. Finally I was reduced to a condition of absolute emaciation and weakness. When leaving the hospital in San Francisco, where I had been for four months, my mother was told that nothing more could be done for me, as my heart was so far gone I could never live under another anaesthetic; that, in any event, I never could walk again to any extent, or eat solid food.
After this I lingered along for several months, my heart trouble growing worse, and I was given strychnine every hour, and sometimes oftener; it was necessary to inject food, as I could hold nothing on my stomach, and the pain in my left arm was excruciating, which the doctors said was the worst possible sign. Finally, they told my family the longest I could live was five days, and that I would probably not survive the night. That night my mother, who a few days previously had been told that she must not consider she had done everything for me until she had tried Christian Science, in desperation, and with the consent of my husband and brother, sent for a practitioner.
I received immediate help the first treatment, eating with enjoyment and without discomfort, and sleeping a natural sleep that night, which was the first in many, many months. My heart trouble was healed in a few weeks, and I have never had a serious attack since my first treatment. However, I continued under the practitioner's care for a year before being entirely rid of my other troubles. During that time I read and worked constantly with my Science.
