Before I knew of Christian Science and its beautiful teachings I was in a wretched condition indeed, and sometimes wished that God would take me to heaven through the door of death, as I had been taught to believe He would. Still I feared I was not fit for that city of purity and light, and I often wondered how death could possibly make me ready for it: in fact. I doubted that it would, and so, although I was very miserable, I usually preferred to struggle on here. In the darkest hour, however, when the hope of recovering my health seemed very dim, Christian Science was presented to me, and no words of mine can ever express the joy and peace that came to me with the first reading of the "little book," Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. It was as if I had stepped from dense darkness into brilliant light, and never from that moment have I doubted the truth of Christian Science.
Through it I have learned that the kingdom of heaven is within, and that I need not die to reach it. I have learned that in God is my health, and I am learning to know God as infinite Love,— the All in all, and man as His image and likeness.
What greater joy could come to one, than thus to know God and man? Is it any wonder that my heart overflows with gratitude for this understanding and with gratitude to all who in any way have helped me to gain it?
