Testimonies of Healing

Something over two years ago I attended my first Christian Science...

From the November 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Something over two years ago I attended my first Christian Science service. This was in The Mother Church in Boston. One Sunday morning a friend asked me to go to this church,— and I said that I had heard so much about it I would like to go once. I came away from that service just full, I was so impressed that I hardly stirred during the service. Never through my life had I been touched as I was then. The truth sank deep into my consciousness. I continued to attend the services regularly, and realized that I had found my place,— that which I had been searching for all my life. I was brought up in an orthodox church, but never had the desire to join any church till I found Christian Science. Now it is my privilege to be a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City. It was through the sweet spiritual thought, the reflection of divine Love, that I learned in Christian Science the way to an ever-present God.

For many years I was a slave to eye-glasses, and while reading Science and Health a condition came to the eyes that was very annoying, so much so that I decided to have the eyes tested again. This I did, and procured new glasses, but the trouble continued. For three days I tried to wear these glasses, but with discomfort. On the third day as I was standing before the mirror, the thought came to me, "What are you doing? the error is in you." This came to me with such force that for a moment I was rooted to the spot.

I immediately removed the glasses, took our text-book, and sat down to read. At first I could not see to read, but I persevered and gradually I could see more and more clearly, till finally I read a long time, perhaps two hours. When I had finished I locked the glasses away and have not seen them since. I was completely healed by reading and realizing the truth revealed in that book. This occurred over a year ago, and my eyes are now better than they have been in years, and my occupation requires their constant use.
