Testimonies of Healing

We learn in Christian Science that loving is giving, and...

From the November 1904 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We learn in Christian Science that loving is giving, and we should appreciate the blessed privilege of giving out to others the reason for the hope that is in us. It is with the deepest gratitude that I offer the following testimony, trusting it may inspire faith and strengthen hope in some dear heart on the journey "from sense to Soul" (Science and Health, p. 48).

Some time ago I started on a trip to California, leaving behind a dear sister who had been an invalid for several years. She was unable to help herself in any way, and most of the time it was necessary to carry her up and down stairs. I had been her constant companion through operations, but they brought her only temporary relief. It was in this condition I left her, and after several weeks had passed, a voice seemed to say to me, "Go to your sister, she wants you." On our way back from California we were to make several stops, but I decided to go on without delay. I wired my sister of my intention, and upon arriving at the depot in the little town in which she lived, her bright, smiling face was the first to greet me. She rushed to me through the crowd and offered to carry my satchel as we walked to the carriage. I was so amazed at the change, that for a moment I could hardly realize it was the dear one I had left behind a few months before. She seemed like a new creature, and indeed she was, as I learned later. I could not wait until we reached home, and my first question was, "What has brought this great change in you?" With such a wealth of love beaming from her eyes she said quietly, "I will tell you when we reach home."

After we had settled down for a good visit she walked over to where I sat, placed in my hands a little book, and said, with tears of gratitude, "This, my dear, has healed me." The book was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. She had been completely healed by the reading of this wonderful book. Shortly after this she went to housekeeping, attended to all the duties necessary to the care of a home, walked back and forth to church twice on Sunday in all sorts of weather, and, best of all, helped others to the understanding of this blessed Truth which had made her free.
