Testimonies of Healing

About eight years ago I became interested in Christian Science...

From the January 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal

About eight years ago I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of a disease for which the doctor recommended an operation and offered scarcely any hope of relief without it. I had made arrangements to go to the hospital for treatment, but through the earnest appeal of a lady who was not a Christian Scientist herself, but who knew of the efficacy of Christian Science healing in her own family, I concluded to postpone my visit and read Science and Health for a few days at least. The lady with whom I boarded while I was reading Science and Health, had been healed of a chronic case of piles. She had exhausted medical skill, except an operation, and this she was contemplating when Christian Science found her.

None of her family had yet embraced Christian Science as a religion, but the husband and the father, as well as herself, testified to the good results in her healing, which seemed to help break down much of the prejudice I had formerly entertained against Christian Science and Christian Scientists.

Science and Health had been left in our home for me to read at a time when I was dieting and taking massage and electrical treatments without any benefit whatever, but I would not even open the book, so afraid was I of becoming contaminated with its teachings. After some of the prejudice was destroyed, however, I began to read it, and very soon asked for treatment from a practitioner who patiently and lovingly led me into the light. My eyes had troubled me so severely for some time that I found it very difficult to read even what seemed absolutely necessary in my work as a teacher: but after reading Science and Health for a few days, I found that this difficulty was entirely destroyed, and I could read for hours without the slightest inconvenience. After several weeks' treatment I was healed, not only of the trouble for which an operation had been recommended, but of many ailments, among them chronic indigestion.
