Several years ago I had a boil form under one knee. I had suffered from the same cause two years previous and was in a hospital two weeks with it. I hobbled around a week, and every step brought me agony. I knew a friend who had been healed through Christian Science and I decided I would not go to a hospital again but would try Christian Science. I was then wearing a flannel bandage on my knee which I had worn twenty years for rheumatism, being a constant sufferer. I had tried many times to leave the bandage off, but every time I caught cold and was glad to put it on again. When I went for treatment the practitioner told me I must take the bandage off, which I did, and have never worn one since. I had one treatment and the pain stopped. I continued treatment for one week and all swelling and the disagreeable effects disappeared entirely.
The practitioner asked me to read Science and Health: I did so, but it was hard work at first and I did not enjoy it. I went to the Wednesday evening meetings, but did not enjoy them either. I never liked to hear Mrs. Eddy's name mentioned. I had no idea of going into Science at that time, but took no medicine of any kind until six months later, when I had a severe attack of rheumatism. I took one lithia tablet, then thought Christian Science could cure rheumatism as well as boils, so went to the practitioner and in one treatment was cured.
I had never enjoyed this mortal body very much, it seemed so full of pain all the time, but life does not seem a burden now, since I have become interested in Christian Science. I feel, too, as if I would like to speak aloud Mrs. Eddy's praise so that all may know her and may receive the same blessings that I have. I also enjoy reading Science and Health each day. I have not taken one drop of medicine for over four years, while I formerly had medicine with me always and took several kinds each day. I have had all kinds of physicians, homœopathic, allopathic, mesmerism, hypnotism, etc., but none could reach my case. I feel sincerely grateful for all the blessings I have received, and I want to return thanks to God and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for Christian Science and the manifold blessings it has brought to me. I also wish to thank the practitioner, who worked so patiently for me.
