About eight months ago my eyes became very inflamed, causing me a great deal of pain and discomfort. I had been bicycling in a high wind, by the seaside, and a great deal of grit blew into my face and eyes, which caused a trouble that I imagine doctors would call ophthalmia. My eyes became so bad that a strong light seemed almost unbearable. I could neither read, write, nor work; at night, when trying to sleep, it was great pain even to shut the eyelids. Never having had anything at all the matter with my eyes before, and being on the eve of departure for a long journey round the world, I became very depressed; a great fear got hold of me, too, at the idea of traveling with no Christian Scientist near to help me. Having many material things to do just then, I went to a practitioner and had a fortnight's treatment; the fear was quite destroyed, although the outward manifestation did not yield entirely until some weeks after. I was then able to help myself, having more leisure. All my duties were gone through, and in spite of the glare at sea, dust, land travel,—everything in fact which formerly would have been considered terribly trying,—my eyes became perfectly well. I need hardly say how very deeply grateful I am for this proof of the healing power of Truth. Before finishing I must add a testimony of my wonderful healing of severe headaches, from which I had suffered most of my life, simply by reading Science and Health. I have never had a treatment for them at all. I also had colds and coughs, but these have entirely gone in the same way.
