In the summer of 1904 I was healed of paralysis. When first stricken, a physician was called who pronounced the case fatal. He said there was no opportunity whatever for recovery, one side being completely paralyzed and I unconscious. When this verdict was rendered a Christian Scientist was called and the case turned over to this treatment. Five days later consciousness was restored, and ten days after I began using the muscles of the right side. At first it was only a slight motion of a finger or toe, but so rapid was my recovery that in less than eight weeks I was out on the street as usual, walking short distances to and from the street car and attending the Sunday services. Any one may judge of the severity of the ailment when I say that after I began to recover I opened Science and Health, and to my great surprise I did not know one letter from another. I had to learn them over again as I did when a child. The healing was, however, complete and final. While recovery in this instance was rapid, I had a later experience of slower healing, which set me to work in earnest to study and help myself. The instance I refer to was nothing serious, from a medical or any other standpoint, but I gleaned some valuable lessons during the time spent with my Bible and Science and Health.
I have no words to express my gratitude to God for His loving-kindness in the preservation of my life and my restoration to health. I know it was only this wondrous power that carried me through. The thought uppermost in my mind is continually, "Who is so great a God as our God?"— Kalamazoo, Mich.
