After having been under the care of different physicians for several years, I was healed by Christian Science, in less than a week, of what the physicians had called abnormal growths. I had been under the constant care of a physician for four months, most of the time in bed. He tried by every means to relieve my intense suffering, but erred, as had all his predecessors, in keeping me under the influence of morphine. He said the only hope was an operation, which he did not wish to perform, as there was too much danger connected with it. He then advised me to go to Salt Lake City, Utah, to see if the change in altitude would not relieve me. Acting on his advice, my husband took me there, but I received no relief. Another physician was called, who said he could do nothing except give me an opiate, as it was a case for a surgeon, not a physician, and he recommended a man whom he considered one of the best surgeons in the State.
I was taken to a hospital, and when this surgeon made an examination he said he found a number of growths, one of which he removed, but the others he could not without a very dangerous operation, to which my husband would not consent. I was at the hospital one week, with no relief from the intense pain, the surgeon still advising me to have another operation, although he said the chances were against my living through it, but that without it I would only live so long as I could stand the morphine.
During the time I was in the hospital a friend advised me to try Christian Science. I had no faith in it, but as the doctors gave me such small hopes, I was willing to try anything. I told the doctor that I thought of trying Christian Science, and he said. "Nothing will hurt you." I also told the matron, and she said, "I have heard of some wonderful cures they have made." I left the hospital, sent for a practitioner, and in less than a week I was healed. I could walk anywhere I wanted to go, and could be on my feet all day without any return of the misery and pain which had made life a burden for so long. This healing took place in 1898, over seven years ago, and I have had no return of the trouble. I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for giving this Science to the world.
