IN SILENCE

From the February 1907 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Day dawns, and brings the world new light ;
Fades, dies away the gloom of night.
In silence comes the dawn's first golden ray;
A power unseen has changed the night to day.

So dawns Life's day, in quietude of thought,
With heaven's own peace and happiness full fraught.
Hushed, still, comes Love's great power to all,
And Truth's bright rays lift error's midnight pall.

O gentle power so silent, voice so sweet,
We dwell in transient sense-dreams incomplete.
Dawn on this night of darkness dense, and say,
Wake! Rise! Behold! Earth's shadows flee! 'This day!
