In 1897 I was in an advanced stage of a supposedly inherited lung trouble. My mother and my four sisters had passed away with the disease under the best medical attendance obtainable. The first symptoms developed in me when I was fourteen years of age. Our family physician examined me at that time, and under his treatment the disease seemed to be arrested, but some years later the symptoms recurred and I underwent an examination by another physician, who agreed in his diagnosis with the other doctor. Later a third physician was called and he confirmed our fears. For the next eighteen months my suffering gradually increased, the disease extending during that period, and while I was constantly under the best medical treatment I was growing worse all the while.
At this time I was persuaded to give Christian Science a trial, and it brought me the first relief from pain I had felt in more than nine weeks. We were all extremely susceptible to colds, and by the doctor's advice I was wearing a chamois vest, made double, as a guard against that tendency. Acting on my practitioner's suggestion, I discarded it at once, with no ill effects although it was the month of January, and since that time, more than eight years ago, I have been able to bear all kinds of exposure, and make any changes in my clothing, winter or summer, without contracting a cold. After the first few days under Christian Science I found that I was entirely cured of a stomach trouble which had caused me a great deal of discomfort, and within two weeks I realized that I was wonderfully helped in periodical suffering which a specialist after several months' faithful effort had failed to relieve. Later this was cured. I was under Christian Science treatment for the lung trouble eleven months, but the cure was complete and to-day there is not a vestige of the disease left. My healing was effected through absent treatment entirely.
