In March, 1903, I was brought home from the hospital where I had been taken for an operation for the removal of a growth on the liver. One prominent physician had said that an operation would be useless, as I could not live through it, but two others pronounced my case incurable without it. The operation was attempted, but they found it would be impossible to perform it with safety, and the verdict was that the case was incurable and that if I lived to leave the hospital I could not survive three months longer. After five weeks of suffering, from which I could be relieved only by opiates, I was brought home in a pitiable condition. I was suffering greatly and could not sleep, and of course was taking everything that my physician suggested, but found no relief from any of these conditions.
After six weeks more of constant suffering, I yielded to the persuasions of a friend to try Christian Science, and after the first treatment I not only slept naturally the whole night but all pain disappeared; the action of the stomach, bladder, and bowels at once became normal, and has continued so ever since. The remainder of my healing has been slow, but I have gradually learned to understand the truth that was healing me, and to-day I am free. The physicians acquainted with my case have tried to account for my healing in various ways, but I know that I owe my life to Christian Science.
