In November, 1905. I was healed in Christian Science of the liquor habit, and in May, 1908, the tobacco habit suddenly left me. I have also overcome the prejudice held by me against woman as man's copartner in human affairs. I am grateful to God for these and for the numerous other blessings which I have received through the teachings of Christian Science. So many are they that, if I recounted them all daily, it would leave me but little time to think of the things I once thought I ought to have but did not receive. I find, however, that we must constantly watch and pray, and give heed to our Leader's earnest admonition, "Christian Scientists, be a law unto yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake" (Science and Health, p. 442).
I am grateful for having been admitted to membership in The Mother Church in June, 1909, and this membership I consider is the best tribute we can pay to Mrs. Eddy, as we thus plant ourselves firmly by her side in the progress onward and upward of Christian Science. We can perhaps never fully appreciate our Leader's personal work, nor realize that of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," but we can at least show to others that we are trying to do so by faithfully following Mrs. Eddy's example and teaching.
I have held many public offices here, and my being in Science is well known, also what Truth has done for me. I close with grateful thanks to our Leader, and to God, who is first and last.
