I came to Christian Science for physical healing and as a last resort. I did not know it was a religion until I began to take treatment and to study Science and Health, which I found was indeed a "Key to the Scriptures." I was at that time a nervous wreck, resulting from what the physicians pronounced a diseased condition of the stomach, bowels, and liver, which had become chronic. I felt then that there was no hope for me, an l I spent some dreadful nights until I became almost insane. I then went away from home, seeking a place of quiet. I landed at Hermosa Beach, a beautiful spot to me, and there I found my rooms situated within a short distance of the place where the Christian Scientists held their services. I thought I would go to the service one Wednesday evening to pass the time, and it was there, in that little church, that I received my first treatment, not that night, but a week later.
I wish to say that I was brought out of the depths of hell into God's marvelous light. I needed something, but never knew what it was until I came into this beautiful truth. I need not attempt to tell on paper what I have received through the understanding I have gained in the leading of Science and Health; it came as a revelation to an inspired woman and she gave it to the world. I am more grateful than words can express in knowing that God is an ever-present help in time of need. It would not benefit any one for me to relate more of my past sufferings, and I do not want to recall them. I only wish to live the life of a true Christian Scientist, so that I may be able to help others as I have been helped. I will have been three years in this truth in July. 1911.
