I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science and for the great blessing it has brought to me in the seven years since I first heard of it. I was then a helpless invalid and had been a very great sufferer for almost twenty years, my trouble being paralysis in the lower limbs. I had been unable to walk for almost eight years and at times my arms became quite useless, so that I had to be both washed and fed. Although I tried a good many doctors, I gradually became worse, and when I decided to try Christian Science all I could do was to move my head on the pillow and speak.
It was at this time that my doctor wished me to try Christian Science, as he had seen a case of fourteen years' standing healed. I decided to try what it could do for me, and sent for a practitioner, with the result that while he was with me my legs commenced to move under the bedclothes. In a few hours' time my limbs relaxed to my happy surprise, and I felt I could walk. I got out of bed, and with my sister's help walked twice across the bedroom floor. The feeling of gratitude for my freedom at that time was indeed very great, but when I had been walking about a week. I slipped and fell, injuring one leg. It was placed in splints by my former medical attendant, and yet after three months the bone had not united. The doctor wanted to encase the leg in plaster, and said if it did not unite with that it would be necessary to perform a serious operation, as otherwise there never would be any real healing. It needed this lesson to make me turn to God, and God alone, for this healing, just as I had turned to Him for the healing of the paralysis. After making up my mind to do this, and discharging the doctor, the healing' began immediately, and in less than a fortnight the bone had completely united and this leg was even stronger than the other.
The gratitude which I felt for my healing was very great, but words fail to express the deep thankfulness which I feel for the spiritual light that has come to me: it goes out every day more and more for Christian Science, and I thank God for His goodness to me, and I am also deeply grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who searched the Scriptures and found the truth which does make us free, and again brought it to mankind.
