I cannotwithhold my expression of deep gratitude for the inspiration and the healing which have come to me through Christian Science. For ten years I suffered from a severe nervous trouble and had been successively under the care of various physicians and medical authorities, yet there was no improvement ; on the contrary, my suffering increased with every year. In July, 1909, I became very ill, and an affection of the heart manifested itself. The physician in attendance, who greatly doubted my recovery, after several months' treatment advised me to go to a watering-place as a last resort. I did so, and underwent a six-weeks course of treatment, at the end of which the physician himself seemed to think that it had not produced the desired effect, and therefore prescribed another course to complete the cure. After my return home my superiors sent me for examination to a physician of high repute, who expressed the opinion that it would be impossible for me ever to resume my duty; whereupon I was notified that I would be pensioned off before long.
At this time I heard of Christian Science, and I attended the meetings and services regularly. I was so much impressed by the testimonies of healing which I heard at the meetings, as well as by the reading of Der Herold and other Christian Science literature, that I decided to call upon a Christian Science practitioner and apply for treatment. My request was readily complied with. I now put all my trust in God, and the power of Truth soon became manifest in my case. Some three months later another examination was made by a medical authority upon my request, and I was pronounced fit for service. I entered it again, and for the past ten months have filled my position without experiencing any marked indications of my former troubles.
My wife had also had considerable medical treatment on account of stomach disorder and headaches without being benefited, and it seemed impossible for her to do laborious work without much inconvenience. She would also be seized with headaches and feel ill while on short railway trips, but through the study of Christian Science she was freed from all suffering in six weeks, and is now able to perform heavy work without any ill effects whatsoever. She was recently on a seven-hours railway trip without experiencing the slightest inconvenience. Our youngest boy had rickets at the age of three, and the physician advised us to have splints applied. The boy had so little strength in his legs that he could not walk even short distances, and had to be drawn about in a carriage up to the age of four and a half; but after we had been in Christian Science for three months, he was able to walk long distances and we did not use the carriage any more.
