Testimonies of Healing

During my experience in Christian Science...

From the June 1912 issue of The Christian Science Journal

During my experience in Christian Science I have been helped many times, one case being the healing of a carbuncle. One night when I retired I noticed a small red spot on my cheek, but did not pay any attention to it. In the morning it was much larger, and my cheek was badly swollen. It continued to grow worse all day, so the next day I consulted a Christian Science practitioner, who told me that I must get rid of the fear which was oppressing me greatly at the time. She then read to me until I realized that there is no life in matter, and that we need have no fear "that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind" (Science and Health, p. 393). She then gave me treatment, and when I left she said I should not go home and look in the mirror to see if my cheek was still disfigured, but "look away from the body into Truth and Love" (Science and Health, p. 261). I tried to do as I was told, and during that evening the abscess opened and discharged, leaving my cheek perfectly natural.

This healing showed me especially the "quick" action of Truth, for soon after my healing a friend who was under materia medica, suffered from the same ailment. She suffered intensely, her cheek remained swollen a long time, in the end it was found necessary to lance it, and the healing was very slow. In my case, I had suffered no pain. For this and many other healings I am deeply grateful. In Christian Science I have found the firm foundation on which to rest, the truth by which all error must be conquered.—
