The psalmist says: "O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever." Any one who has experienced so much of the divine goodness as I would be remiss in duty should he fail to acknowledge it. With a heart full of gratitude, I therefore wish to tell of my healing. I was a sufferer for nineteen years from asthma and heart trouble, confined to my bed for months at a time, and receiving daily visits from our kind and sympathetic family physician, who administered all the usual remedies, including tonics and opiates. I also tried faithfully dietetics and hygiene, and not one but many of the specialists of my home city, Chicago, were called in consultation and their remedies faithfully tried, without affording me any great relief. They finally gave up my case as hopeless, advising a change of climate. I then spent one year traveling throughout the South and West, but was not benefited.
At last, as serious complications were manifested and my suffering grew more intense, I was sent to the hospital, a wreck physically and mentally. Here I spent eight weeks and submitted to two minor operations; everything that mortal mind could suggest was done for me, but I grew worse and was often unconscious. I was told by the attending physician that the only hope lay in another operation, a very serious one, but this I refused as I was very weak and felt that I could stand no more. I then returned home thoroughly discouraged and feeling life a burden.
Many times Christian Science knocked at my door during those long weary years of suffering, but I refused it admittance. Now, however, in the very darkest hour of my life, when all other means had failed, I turned to Truth and was healed. After experiencing this healing, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy became my daily companion. One day while reading I was instantly healed of near-sightedness, which had bound me from childhood. I put away my glasses and have never used them since. It has been three years since Science entered our home, bringing joy and happiness such as we never knew before. I am very thankful for the love and patience which brought so much peace and gladness into my life, for indeed the truth has made me free. I can only show my gratitude for this great truth by daily striving to live it.—Roswell, N. M.
