To show my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me, and possibly to be a benefit to some one who is wandering in the shadows of despair, and who needs the "great Physician," I send this testimony, in proof of God's care of those who trust Him. For fifty years I suffered from a stomach ailment, with accompanying ills, such as serious heart trouble, frequent and violent headaches, lasting always twenty-four hours and often longer; also rectal and bowel trouble for which I took medicine daily for several years, until it was pronounced incurable, and I was assured that I could never get more than temporary relief. At this time I was completely discouraged and gave up to apparently lifelong suffering.
I had from childhood been a Bible student, and often wondered why the church should leave off the command of Jesus to "heal the sick," as well as to reform the sinner. Christian Science did not at first appeal to me as being just the right thing; in short, I was afraid of it. But when again it was offered me, I accepted it, and was instantaneously healed of all the above-mentioned troubles and have had no return of them. The kind practitioner requested me to study the Bible and Science and Health together, in order that I might gain enlightenment in Christian Science. I reluctantly obeyed, but honestly and earnestly studied in search of Truth in accord with Paul's advice, "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."
In less than two weeks of faithful study I was surprised to find myself reading without the aid of eyeglasses, which I had worn twenty-two years and could not distinguish one word from another without them. Since then my sight has been perfect. I read fine print for hours at a time, both day and night, without any bad effect to my eyes. Over fourteen years have passed and I have no use for glasses. During this time I have had many small tests of Truth's power in cases of burns, bruises, etc., and was reminded that the teaching of Christ Jesus, as again given in Christian Science, is a ready help in every need. It has never failed me.
