I feel that I owe it to others to tell what Christian Science has done for me. For years I was enslaved by the liquor habit, although continually fighting it in a way; but it would, overcome my good intentions, and then would come such a period of excessive drinking as was shameful. After this I would remorsefully declare that I would stop the drinking, but only to repeat the performance in the course of a few weeks. Various cures were recommended, among which was Christian Science, but I decided to rely on my own will-power, although at times I would read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, but I always threw it aside without finding anything in it to my liking.
At last I reached my extremity, and knew that of myself I could do nothing, so like a tired child I crept to the feet of Christ. I asked for help in Christian Science. It was cheerfully given, and I was healed. I had also been addicted to the use of tobacco for more than twenty-five years, but that too left me naturally and easily. My earnest desire now is to prove to my fellow men that the real man is a perfect child of God, incapable of falling from his high estate.
Since taking up the study of Christian Science it has been our only physician, and we have proved that it is capable of meeting our every need. Not least among the blessings of Christian Science is the spiritual joy and peaceful knowledge that at last the Scriptures are an open book for us all to read and understand, through the teaching of our beloved Leader, for all of which I am truly grateful.— West Richfield, Ohio.
