Even prior to becoming acquainted with the teachings of Christian Science I had wonderful proofs of God's omnipotence and love. I set my trust neither on physicians nor on material means and was healed of various diseases, and so were my husband and children; but in November, 1910, a terrible pain of the head set in which gradually became so intense that I cried out for hours at a time. The symptoms all seemed to indicate a very serious condition and I suffered terribly from pain in the face, the throat, and upper arm. I tried to realize God's love, but the pain returned at regular intervals, causing the most terrible suffering.
I had seen a girl suffer similarly in a hospital, and therefore was unable to conquer my fear, but after hearing of Christian Science I sent to the young lady who told me of it with a request for help. The Scientist found me in a helpless condition, but in a few minutes I felt the pain growing less, and after a little while it disappeared altogether, and my sleep became normal, something I had not known for a long time. The sense of fear did not yield, however, and the attacks therefore kept returning at certain hours; but with two weeks' faithful treatment I was completely healed.
I am deeply grateful to God not only for this wonderful healing, but above all for the understanding which I have gained through reading Der Herold der Christian Science and other Christian Science literature, for thereby I was enabled to discern more clearly the power of divine Love which frees us from the shackles of error.
