Testimonies of Healing

I have long withheld my testimony...

From the August 1912 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have long withheld my testimony of what Christian Science has done for me, as the demonstrations seemed so small that I felt they were not convincing enough to one who had never experienced any benefits from it. An experience which I had last November, however, should convince even the most skeptical.

For a number of weeks I had wakened in the morning with my hand and arm so numb there was scarcely any feeling in them, but thinking it was nothing more than a case of poor circulation I dismissed it from my thought, until one day while at work my hand and arm began to pain me and I felt a slight numbness in my fingers. As I had considerable fear respecting the outcome I asked for treatment in Christian Science, but the next week it was so much worse that I was unable to use my hand. I then learned that the trouble was diagnosed in materia medica as neurosis, and that it was considered very serious. I was at first almost overcome with fear, but I immediately realized that with God all things are possible, and that here was another opportunity to prove the nothingness of the belief of intelligence in matter. From that time I improved, the pain gradually left me, and at the end of the second week of treatment I was able to resume my work, although with some difficulty at first. After a few weeks I was entirely free from pain, and I have not had the slightest return of the trouble.

While I am deeply grateful for the healing, it has meant much more to me than merely gaining freedom from physical suffering, as it has given me a greater trust in the power of divine Mind to destroy error in all its forms. During this experience the reading of Science and Health brought me great peace and comfort, and I realized as never before what a wonderful book it is. In the eight years that I have been studying Christian Science I have found divine Truth an ever-present help, and can see that I am gradually being freed from the sense of fear and limitation in everything that I undertake. It is a constant source of rejoicing, and my one desire is so to reflect this truth in my life that it will be the means of leading others to Christian Science.— .
