Testimonies of Healing

[Translated from the German]

With a heart full of gratitude I...

From the August 1912 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With a heart full of gratitude I wish to tell of the many blessings which I have experienced through Christian Science. Because of much sorrow, care, and disease in my family I myself became ill. I suffered with a diseased kidney, a chronic stomach disorder, headache, and bowel trouble, and was greatly reduced in flesh. The physician in attendance said that he could do nothing more for me. With regard to the kidney, he advised me to submit to an operation, but not until I felt stronger. I could not make up my mind, however, to undergo this operation, and for three weeks tried nature-cure, though unsuccessfully. My sole desire was to die, and I often prayed unto God that He might deliver me from my suffering through death. And God indeed delivered me from all my ills — not through death, but through divine Love. My attention was called to Christian Science. I went with a sorrowful heart to see a practitioner, but I returned home almost transformed, in buoyant spirits, so that my husband who knew nothing of what had happened greatly wondered, as he could not account for the change which had taken place with me. With four treatments I got rid of all my diseases, and light, harmony, and love returned to our home, where dark had often prevailed.

My long-cherished desire that my husband and myself might be able to attend church together was fulfilled. Since then—this was nine years ago —we have experienced innumerable blessings through Christian Science. Three years ago an ailment manifested itself again (a weak heart), but this was overcome by the power of divine Truth. Our children also have had many wonderful proofs of this glorious truth. When thought reverts to the past, and I compare it with the present, I realize the inestimable worth of Christian Science, because it not only heals us from our infirmities, but best of all, it makes us better men and women.

For all these benefits I am infinitely thankful to God, and next to Him to Mrs. Eddy. —
