We live at a village where there are but five other students of Christian Science, and although I had read Science and Health for nearly three years, I refused until recently to call myself a Scientist, as I had failed to demonstrate the power of Truth to heal disease. My husband was laboring under the sense of asthma, having been a victim for over twenty years, and it often seemed that he was on the verge of passing on. He was at this time endeavoring to overcome the illness without material means, and I sat by his bedside reading aloud from the Bible and Science and Health. Two hours passed, during which time I prayed as I had never prayed before. As I read and prayed he at length fell into a quiet slumber and slept all night, and he has never had a touch of the disease since.
Some time after this, he had a severe attack of cold. At midnight I treated myself for fear, as the condition was to human sense alarming, but the "still small voice" of Truth directed me, lonely as I was, except for him who said, "I will not leave you comfortless," and I arose and read silently while I prayed for two hours. Then help came at once. By half past three he was free from fever, his breathing regular, and next morning he arose at the usual time, did his customary work, and we then walked two miles to tell the good news to the Scientists, our friends, on the far side of the village.
I believe it would be wrong to remain silent when God through Christ, Truth, has thus answered our prayers.— Port Lavaca, Tex.
