"FOUR FIRST RULES"

From the December 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ON page 9 of "Christian Science versus Pantheism" Mrs. Eddy writes: "Is there a religion under the sun that hath demonstrated one God and the four first rules pertaining thereto, namely, 'Thou shalt have no other gods before me;' 'Love thy neighbor as thyself;' 'Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect;' 'Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.' (John xi. 26.)"

Christian Science is helping multitudes the world over to demonstrate, set forth, or prove one God as the only power. Its teachings explain the four rules quoted by Mrs. Eddy from the Scriptures as natural and logical. Christian Science proves that these rules are capable of present application, and it has shown mankind the reason why statements which seem to human sense transcendental and visionary are in reality normal, practical, and available expressions of ever-active Truth.

Christian Science bases itself upon God. All the misery of the world is due to ignorance of God. All its sorrow, sickness, resentment, crime, oppression, deception, and glamour can be cured and wiped away through the spiritual understanding of God. What delusions and disappointments await the worshiper of gods many, the follower of other gods, who does not know in the intimacy of his own consciousness the meaning of that resounding declaration of the prophet, "Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord."
