In reading recently of a doctor of medicine who had expressed through the columns of the press his disbelief that Christian Science could cure physical exhaustion, since medicine was powerless to relieve that condition, the conviction came to me that only ingratitude had so long prevented the acknowledgment through our publications of my own healing from this distressing ailment.
Though it was not through physical healing that I became interested in Christian Science, at the time this teaching was first brought to my notice I was subject to such extreme exhaustion that when I reached home from business in the afternoon I was obliged to lie down, and was unable to participate in any activity during the evening. Every day brought a recurrence of the condition, and though I then had no knowledge of Christian Science, and knew that medicine would not avail, I still believed I should get over it in time. I surely was to get over it, but I had no idea then that the blessing would come through the book which a kind Scientist had loaned me to read.
I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy regularly, though I seemed to understand very little of it, and I attended the services only occasionally; but within a month's time I found that the exhaustion had entirely disappeared and I was completely healed. It was no longer an effort to reach home, and in the evening I was free from bondage and could go anywhere or do anything I liked. Strength for my daily work was always sufficient, and my general health was greatly improved ; in fact, I became strong, and therefore able to perform every duty.
