Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has been such...

From the April 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has been such a help to me in my work as a teacher in the public schools, that I desire to express my gratitude. It has given me an understanding of the Bible which enables me to keep well and strong, my mentality is clearer, and my joy in my work is increased. By keeping my mind filled with thoughts of Truth, Life, and Love, I have seen manifestations of sin, as well as of sickness, vanish into their native nothingness.

I recall one such case. It was known to one of the teachers in the building that a pupil in my room had gone to a certain room at a forbidden time, and while there had disobeyed again by turning on a stream of water and had broken the faucet. He had been questioned by this teacher, but stoutly denied the whole thing. She told me the facts, adding that he had never been known to speak the truth. I immediately declared to myself that God's child could never know anything but the truth. I asked the boy to remain after the others, and together we went to this teacher. She again questioned him, and he again denied the fault. I stood quietly by, firmly realizing the omnipotence of the one Mind, God, and that man is His image and likeness; that he reflects Truth and nothing else. Finally she turned to me and asked if I had always found the pupil truthful; but before I could reply, he looked at me and said, "I did go to the room, and turned on the faucet and broke it." This admission of his fault seemed to surprise the teacher, who afterward said she could not understand how I had influenced him. I knew, however, that it was not I, but the influence of divine Love, which "corrects and governs man" (Science and Health, p. 6).

For this and many other proofs of the utility and availability of Christian Science as explained by Mrs. Eddy, I am most grateful. I understand more and more the meaning of our Leader's words, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love" (Science and Health, p. 1).—
