Testimonies of Healing

The following testimony may help...

From the April 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The following testimony may help others to realize the ever-presence of divine Love in times of accident or sudden emergency, and the wonderful efficacy of Christian Science. Some time ago I fell very heavily on my knee on an unevenly bricked floor, and the pain was so intense that I could not move. It seemed to me as though a voice repeated these words from Science and Health: "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man" (p. 393). By the time the end was reached I did rise, and not in my own strength, but in the strength of Spirit. The realization was so clear I felt quite uplifted, and was able to finish what I had been doing.

We live a mile from the train, and usually drive, but that morning I had to walk. At first the thought came that it would be impossible to go; but I had important work to do at my office, and I remembered what Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 116), under the caption "Obedience": "Never absent from your post," and I knew I could go. It was beautiful to be able to walk that mile along a rough country road and suffer as little as I did then, hardly limping even. When returning home it was quite dark, though not late. June is our winter and it gets dark early, and through some mistake I had to walk home, and alone. Usually this is a very difficult thing for me, but St. Paul's words came: "Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." I thought this over as I walked along, and saw that the "lust of the flesh" would mean any mortal or material belief. The 91st Psalm also helped me. Pondering these passages, I reached home safely, less tired than when I started. Afterward I found that my leg was badly bruised from the hip to the sole of my foot and the kneecap injured. As I knew the medical beliefs about such things, it was difficult to keep fear out, so I asked for a little help, and the fear was soon overcome without any trouble.

This to me has been such a beautiful experience that I should like others to share it with me. The feeling of the nearness of omnipotent, omnipresent good was so helpful and uplifting that my heart went out in gratitude to God for all His goodness to men in again revealing the truth to this age. I was also grateful to our dear Leader for her unselfish perseverance in making this truth practical and plain to us in our every-day life. Christian Science has done much for me in overcoming rheumatism, heart trouble, and even threatened blindness, with great pain in the eyes, and many other ills; but all this is as nothing to the spiritual awakening which brings love and joy and peace into our lives here and now. I feel I can only show my gratitude by putting this truth into daily practise, thus letting my life attest my sincerity.—
