Words fail me when I try to tell what Christian Science has done for me and mine. My mother came into Christian Science when I was a baby, and the demonstrations of Truth's power which I have had are indeed many.
One afternoon in April, 1912, in company with four other young people, I took a trip into the country to see the woods. Part of the journey was made on a trolley car, and the remainder was made on foot. About six o'clock, we started on the return trip. We were perhaps a quarter of a mile from the car when we began to run, and I had gone only a little way when I fell on the clay path. I remained there for a few minutes, trying to realize the truth, as the fall seemed a very severe one, and when asked to arise I found that I had hurt one of my feet. I sat up, and one of the party who was a Scientist, helped me as best she could.
My shoe was removed, and I realized that a terrible sense of faintness was overcoming me, so I asked my friend to go to the nearest Scientist, who was not far off, and ask her to help me till I could get home. When this faintness was overcome, I was placed in a carriage and taken to the home where I was visiting. I felt very ill all the way, but when we reached there, the lady, a Christian Scientist, saw what the need was, and at once set to work to help me. When I had been made comfortable, a physician was called, and he responded quickly. He set the foot in place and put it in a tight brace with a heavy iron weight, then wrapped the foot and leg to the knee in pillows, so I could not move it at all,—this was about half past seven in the evening, —and when he left, he gave strict orders for me to lie perfectly still all night, saying that he hoped by morning he would be able to put the limb in a plaster cast.
