Testimonies of Healing

I am glad to have the privilege of...

From the October 1914 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am glad to have the privilege of expressing some of the gratitude we feel for what Christian Science has brought into our home. Five years ago, when our eldest boy was a year old, the doctor said he had whooping-cough. My grandmother, being a Christian Scientist, recommended that we call a Christian Science practitioner. The baby was given treatment for a week, the cough disappearing at that time. We moved away, and in a few days the cough returned. We thought it would have to be endured for the six weeks that materia medica expects it to last, and we did not call the practitioner again. The child had repeated attacks of croup for the next two years, and when an attack seemed to us the worst he had ever had, we decided to call a practitioner again; but my fear was so great that we gave him medicine, very much discouraged that we could not receive help from Christian Science.

The next summer our second boy came, and for four months all was well. When he had canker of the mouth and a bad cough, the doctor said it was from teething. We were discouraged, and decided to call a Christian Science practitioner a third time, little expecting any help, but not knowing what else to do. In three treatments the cough had gone and the mouth was perfectly healed. We could hardly realize we had received help at last. In a few weeks the baby had the scarlet rash, but that disappeared in a few treatments. Whooping-cough was destroyed in one treatment.

After this the eldest 'boy was very sick with high fever. He was unable to move or to stand, and complained of pain at the back of the head. In three treatments he was playing around the house, and in a week moved every part of his body with perfect freedom. In a few months there were hundreds of cases of infantile paralysis in our city, and that was the first we knew of the ailment which had attacked our boy.
