The testimonies of others have helped me so much that I offer mine in the hope of making some return. It has been about three years since Christian Science was first brought to me. I accepted it gladly, but not for physical healing (since I have usually enjoyed good health), though it has enabled me to banish minor ailments from time to time, such as fever, cold, neuralgia, and other troubles. My husband has also been benefited in many ways. He was healed in a short time of a severe attack of acute lung trouble, and there were no after effects such as had been predicted if he recovered.
For one demonstration especially I shall always be grateful, since it was so convincing to my husband and myself when we had but very little understanding of Science. It was with a teething baby a year old. He had been sick for some time, had had fever for two weeks, and had become very weak and thin, so that he could scarcely hold his head up. His parents and grandmother had done all they could for him and decided to change physicians. A change of climate was advised, the doctor saying that nothing could be done for him here, as the heat was too great. The mother and grandmother were discussing whether they should try yet another doctor, a baby-specialist, when it dawned upon me to see whether I could do anything for the baby through Christian Science.
I asked the mother, who is my niece, to bring the child to my room, and advised her not to call another physician; but I did not mention Christian Science, as she and my sister were not interested. When they had gone out, leaving the baby with me, I went to him and found that he had high fever and was very restless. I began to declare the truth, and after about an hour's treatment he fell asleep, but would wake occasionally and look at me as if he knew I was doing something for him. I therefore kept on declaring the truth until He fell into a deep, quiet sleep. In another hour or so I went to him, and saw that he had begun to perspire, color had come to his cheeks, and all the fever was gone. You may imagine my joy to think I was instrumental in such a beautiful work.
