From a little child of five I sought to know the truth. I used constantly to implore God to make me love Him and serve Him, but not because I was afraid of Him. After years of inquiry and search, going from one religious denomination to another, I found in Christian Science the God I had yearned for all my life, the God who is Love.
I first heard of Christian Science through a friend with whom I lived, for she had been healed by it. Nevertheless, I did not earnestly look into this teaching until two years after her healing. Then I met with an accident, and to mortal sense was seriously hurt, both internally and externally; but being afraid to go to a doctor, the thought came to me that as my friend had been healed, I might be also. I read the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, also tried to carry out the instruction given in the chapter on Christian Science Practice, and in one month I was healed. During this time I left off an elastic stocking which I had worn for varicose veins ever since I was seventeen years old. Four years have passed, and I have never had any need to use a support for the leg. Whereas formerly I could not walk even a short distance without pain, now I can walk miles, and I take part in athletics without any discomfort at all. Every trouble, whether physical or mental, during these years, has been met and overcome by Christian Science.
For all this healing I am indeed grateful; but words fail to express my thankfulness for the spiritual understanding which I have gained, so that I can now realize that God is Love. My childish prayer has at last been answered!
