I feel that I owe it to others to tell what Christian Science has done for me. Most of the time for eight years I was a helpless creature, as I had rheumatism in its worst form. I could not walk without pain, or even raise my hands to my head, and I felt great distress every time I moved. I tried every available material remedy, but all failed.
In 1905 I was asked to go to The Mother Church one cold Wednesday night, and as I was only able to creep along, I rode to the church. When I got there I could not speak above a whisper, but I was healed during the service, while a testimony was being given. I walked home, although it was a ten minutes' ride, feeling as if I had never had rheumatism, and on reaching there a member of my family discovered that I was speaking in a natural voice. The little understanding I have of Christian Science has mastered many other seeming difficulties. Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also;" and Christian Science is proving the truth of his statement.
In seeking that the divine might overcome the human at every point, as Science and Health teaches, I have proved for myself that the healing work of Christian Science is the same today as it was centuries ago. I was born without finger nails, but by faithful study of Science and Health my nails are now perfect. For the space of two years I had ceased to think of them, when one morning, as I washed my hands, I became conscious of man's true being, and I then discovered that my nails were as perfect as those of a child. I was not surprised; it just seemed natural, because I had learned in Christian Science what it means to be a child of God, and as I reflected the light of Truth, I knew that all was harmonious. I am very grateful for this healing, but more so for the spiritual understanding. Is it any wonder that we love Mrs. Eddy for her faithful obedience to the truth of being? It has enabled her to help the whole world to know that God, good, is the only power. May this encourage some beginner!—East Greenwich, R. I.
