I have been a student of Christian Science for over fifteen years. I did not resort to it for healing, but having read the Journal and Sentinel, I was satisfied that I had found the truth, and I then purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. The more I study the Lesson-Sermons the more I am impressed with their value. I have realized the benefit of perfect health all the time, and I have great joy likewise.
I had a wonderful demonstration, which I should like to tell to others. When crossing a street in Melbourne lately, a tram-car stopped at the other side of a cross street, and just as I moved over, a motor-car came at a rapid pace from behind the coming tram. I jumped back off the line I was on, and I then saw that there was a tram-car coming past on that line. I was hit by this car and knocked down. There was extreme pain, as if both legs were broken, but I at once declared the truth that God's child cannot suffer. The tram on the other line pulled up within a few feet of me, and thus saved my being run over. I was picked up, a crowd assembled, and a policeman wanted to take me to the hospital, as they thought I was severely injured. While they were taking me to the foot-path, I kept declaring the truth, and within five minutes I walked away without any assistance. My ankle was much swollen, and it was very black for a couple of days; but there was very little pain, and that only for a short time. I had never given my testimony, so I gave it at the next Wednesday evening service in Melbourne, and was thanked by a number of people, as they all deemed my experience a wonderful one; then when I returned home I gave it in the branch church to which I belong.
I have been in Queensland over fifty years and am now nearly seventy-four years old. A couple of days after the accident referred to, I was perfectly well. It was a good demonstration in Christian Science, and I consider it only right to give my testimony, as I am so well known here, having been a member of Parliament ten years. I can ride on horseback as far in a day or a week as I could twenty years ago, and am always well.
