For a long time I have taken the opportunity to make known to my friends some of the benefits which I have enjoyed through my limited understanding of Christian Science, but I have heretofore refrained from giving any testimony for publication. This, I am sure, is not because of lack of appreciation of the good things that have come my way, but because of a disinclination to appear in print. Considering the fact that I have spent my whole life to a large extent in public affairs, it may appear strange that this is so. However, I am persuaded that this attitude may not be unmixed with error, and I am now going to report somewhat of my own experience and observation of the mighty works of God through Christian Science.
Nearly five years ago I had occasion to put to a severe test this wonderful gospel. My little girl, then ten months old, had been under the best medical treatment obtainable for about two months. She was wasted to an alarming frailty. For two weeks she had taken no nourishment except such as was injected into the bowels; she could retain nothing taken in the mouth. Four physicians said she must die. Our good neighbors had come in to solace the family, and one was holding the little one for her last breath to pass. My oldest daughter recommended that a Christian Science practitioner be called, as all else had failed; and we therefore called one over the telephone. She promptly responded with cheer, and came to the house while the child yet lingered, though with all the symptoms of impending dissolution. When the practitioner arrived, she excluded every one from the room, and twenty minutes later the child was sleeping as sweetly as any child could. That night she had a liberal supply of nourishment, which she retained, and in ten days she was sitting on the floor, playing as happily as any child ever played. She is still with us, and has never had any ailment that approximated seriousness since her healing. She always maintains that she is a "Christian Science girl." During the week after the call of the practitioner, we had a dear friend with us who had taken the case with the advice of the first practitioner, and during her stay we learned our first lessons in Science. Since that day we have never had any use in our family for material remedies. Christian Science has met every need. Our family is more harmonious and happy, and we have had a hundred lesser proofs that God is Love.
While I had been an active member of a church from my childhood, until I obtained some understanding of Christian Science I never knew the fulness of the love of God.— Plainview, Texas.
