Words cannot express how thankful...

From the January 1915 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Words cannot express how thankful I am to God for the many blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. In September, 1912, I was healed of spinal trouble from which six physicians had said I could not recover. I had been in the hospital four months, after a long illness at home. While in the hospital, I was operated on for appendicitis, but instead of getting stronger after the operation, I grew weaker.

I was said to have had spinal trouble since I was two years old, and for two years before my healing I had suffered with my back almost constantly. In August I became much worse. My case was diagnosed as tubercular spinal meningitis. My head was drawn back and I was unable to swallow. I was kept under opiates most of the time, and the doctors said there was no possible chance for my recovery. At that time a friend asked my mother why she did not try Christian Science. My mother went to see a practitioner, who said she would give me absent treatment, and told mother to have me brought home as soon as possible. In three weeks they brought me home without notifying the practitioner. My head was not drawn back at this time, but I suffered intensely with my back and was unable to move myself. I did not realize I was at home. Two days later I had another very severe attack, and my grandmother sent for our former physician. He said there was nothing he could do, except to give me hypodermic injections until the end came.

The next morning, when they thought I was dying, my mother sent for the Christian Science practitioner. I was unconscious when she came. She was with me about three quarters of an hour, and when she went away I was free from all pain and could see plainly, which I had not been able to do for six weeks. The next day the practitioner came again and gave me another treatment. That afternoon I took three steps. The next day I dressed and walked out in the yard. At the end of the week I walked to the practitioner's house, which was about eight blocks away, and after treatment I walked home. I continued to gain in strength until January, when I had what seemed to be a return of the old conditions. The practitioner was called and she gave me treatment. Since then I have been perfectly free. I am much stronger, both physically and spiritualty, than ever before in my life, and I have been able to take positions and work steadily.
