Testimonies of Healing

Looking back, I can see that step...

From the January 1915 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Looking back, I can see that step by step I was led into Christian Science. From childhood I had attended church. The services seemed solemn and grand, the music inspiring, but there were many things we children could not understand, and were not expected to understand until we passed on. For a while things seemed all right that way; then a great unrest set in, and many times I thought I would not go to church because there were so many things I could not believe, but from habit I attended quite often.

For years I was a peevish invalid. I underwent an operation which was a partial success, and kept on under medical care, hoping for a final recovery, which never came that way. Some friends recommended another school of medicine, which I tried with some success; but one day, feeling worse than usual, I called in a near-by doctor. I liked him very well, and decided to employ him all the time, because the first doctor lived a good way off. The new doctor had looked into Christian Science but said he did not like the idea of a woman having all to say.

Some time afterward we moved from Philadelphia to Baltimore, and I went to a Christian Science meeting. A gentleman told me he thought I would find this teaching satisfying. Once in a while I went to a Wednesday evening meeting, but I attended my former church on Sundays. I did not think I could leave the church, until some members found out I attended Christian Science meetings and treated me coolly. This determined me to go to the Christian Science services all the time, and I did. I was thus driven to the right place, and every day I am more satisfied. I feel so grateful for the help received here on the Zone. Many incorrect views which I had gotten have been rectified. I have not taken medicine in nearly seven years, and I get stronger all the time, mentally and physically. Climatic conditions do not trouble me. It would take too long to tell of all the beautiful healing work done for myself and family through the love and understanding of a dear practitioner, who helped us in a patient, tender way. I feel that words can never express my gratitude. My healing has been permanent, and every day brings added proofs of God's love and care. —
