Christian Science has indeed been a great help to me. I had felt for years that the promises of Christ Jesus should be fulfilled at the present time, but I knew of no one who could help me to realize them, and did not know how to apply them to my needs. For many years I had suffered from a severe stomach and bowel trouble for which I had medical treatment and tried so-called health foods, exercises, and so forth, but all to no avail. In 1905, upon the advice of a friend, I turned to Christian Science and received much benefit. Besides taking treatment I read and studied earnestly, with the result that soon I could eat and sleep better than in years, and continued to gain as long as I listened to the "still small voice" which kept whispering to me, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." After a while I neglected to follow the leadings of this voice and so drifted away for several years, but always turned to Christian Science when I was sick.
At length I had a very bad attack and was obliged to give up work, as I was able to stand only a few moments at a time, owing to extreme weakness. Then I sent for a Christian Science practitioner, who immediately began treatment and started me on the right track again, — studying the Lesson-Sermons and reading the Bible and Science and Health. It seemed at times for the first few days that I would certainly pass on, but with the loving, faithful work of the practitioner, and her understanding of man's oneness with God, good, as taught by Christ Jesus and scientifically explained to us by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I was healed. In two weeks I went to work, and in four weeks had no further need of treatment. I now make it my business to seek "first the kingdom of God," for I have found by experience that it does not pay to neglect duty in that direction.
In our family of four we have had many proofs of God's power and willingness to heal and help in times of trouble. None of us has taken a drop of medicine in eight years. I desire to thank God, and am grateful to all the good Christian Scientists who have helped us to get an understanding of the truth by which we know that our heavenly Father heals disease as well as cleanses from sin.— Tulare, Cal.
