Testimonies of Healing

I did not come to Christian Science...

From the November 1915 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I did not come to Christian Science for healing, and indeed my first reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was accompanied by a great deal of prejudice against the author; but glimpses of light revealed the truth of being and led me to continue the study, especially as I had long felt that duty instead of joy in the service was the main incentive in the religion I had hitherto known.

In less than a year after beginning to read the text-book, I had occasion to put its theories into practice, and was satisfied with and grateful for the results. This was at the birth of our first boy. The preceding month we wrote to a Christian Science practitioner, and telephoned to him at the time of the birth. From then on there was no fear, nor were there any drugs or instruments used. The delivery was very quick and everything normal.

About a month before the birth of a baby girl, some of the disagreeable feelings outlined in most medical books on this subject were manifested. We telephoned the Christian Science practitioner whom we had engaged, simply asking that treatment be given, and that was the last of the misery, for I had entire relief. The words written me by the practitioner helped me in my hour of trial: "Be of good cheer. God reigns. Divine Mind governs His own ideas."
