I wish to give expression to my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. In the spring of 1904 I was slowly recovering from a long illness. I felt very much discouraged over the number of years given to various methods the doctors had tried in order to relieve the spinal trouble, which was caused by a fall upon the ice when I was twelve years of age. I finally resolved to dismiss the doctors and try Christian Science, and as soon as possible attend the Christian Science church. Both doctors tried to make me see how unwise such a course would be, but I was determined to seek healing in this way. Very soon, with the help of a practitioner, I was relieved of the constant backache that I had endured for years, and slowly the spine straightened, so that in about five years it was perfectly normal.
The doctors had said I would never be able to eat without distress, but in a short time I was eating and enjoying food in a normal way. The past seven years have been full of health and activity. For several years I had worn steel supports in my shoes because of fallen arches; indeed I was unable to keep on my feet without the supports, and suffered much with them. About four years ago I came to understand that in God is my strength. I accordingly removed the supports, and with treatment from a practitioner for a week, was entirely healed.
The lesson I am daily learning from Christian Science is this: that one's loyalty must be undivided, or mortal mind makes its claim and we have many battles to fight. My earnest desire is that I may grow in understanding. My gratitude for the helps we have in our literature is without measure; and I am realizing in a small way the great blessing it is to us in this age to be able to know even a little of this new-old truth which our Leader has made practically available to those who seek for it. — Boston, Mass.
