I came to Christian Science a hopeless creature as regards my physical condition, never expecting to be well; but that was not the reason for my turning to it, as I had come to think that sickness was part of my life. I was supposed to have inherited heart disease and lung trouble from my mother, and was under the care of physicians all my life up to the time above stated. I had been brought up very religiously, and felt that no church or creed but mine was right. I had always longed to know God and to understand why so many things happened which did not seem to be right. I longed to know something of the peace I heard others tell about, but could not find it. I was a student of the Bible, and often thought, Oh, if these promises were but possible of fulfilment in this age!
At last I met a Christian Scientist, and after a conversation with her I went to the reading room and purchased a Journal and some Sentinels, which I read eagerly. I found a great deal that was plain and reasonable, and a great deal I did not understand, but I saw that the people who wrote the articles were people of education and intelligence. In reading one of the testimonies,a case very similar to my own, I said out loud, "This is just what Jesus taught, I know, and it is the truth."
A short time after this I became very ill, and a growth was removed without any material means. About a year before, the doctor had told me of the existence of this growth and said I would never be well until it was removed by an operation; but this I refused to submit to, for I had come to accept it as a part of my unfortunate condition. At the time of the healing I could only wonder about it, as I had never had any treatment; had not even seen the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "but the truth had entered my consciousness, proving the verity of Mrs, Eddy's words on page 449, "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth."
