Testimonies of Healing

It is a duty as well as a privilege...

From the October 1916 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is a duty as well as a privilege to testify to what Christian Science has done for me. I heard of this teaching when living in the East, but always from sources which were unfavorable to it. Then two brothers who knew of my great need began to send me the literature, but it was never opened. I was a constant sufferer from bowel disorder, heart and nervous troubles, abscess of the stomach, and enlarged liver, as well as other ailments. A truss had been worn for over twelve years, and great pain was experienced if it was left off even for a few minutes.

Nine years ago we came West to live, and for a year I was under the doctor's care, in bed all the time. Finally he told my daughter I could not get better, that he had done all he could and the end would come in a few days. We had a Christian Science neighbor, and when she heard that the doctor had given me up she asked me if I would not like to try Christian Science. I gladly gave my consent and treatment was begun. My condition immediately improved: in fact the liver trouble was instantly overcome and there has never been a return of it. The support was discarded and has not been needed since. When able to get up I found it was impossible for me to walk, but gradually my strength returned, and now I can walk very well indeed for a woman over seventy-five years of age. The stomach trouble is gone, and instead of eating only so-called light foods, I eat whatever the rest of the family do and enjoy my meals. Whenever error would have me believe something is wrong, instead of appealing to drugs I take the Bible and Science and Health and always find relief through the operation of the spiritual law which heals.

I am so grateful for this understanding of God, which does deliver us from our destructions, and my heart overflows with love for Mrs. Eddy, who was pure enough and courageous enough to give the truth to the world.—
