It is with the greatest thankfulness to God and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy that I write this testimony of the power of Spirit over matter. On Dec. 26, 1910, my little girl, then thirteen months old, was taken with what we thought to be a severe chill. After a few troublesome days and more troublesome nights we sent for a doctor, as the child's ears had commenced to discharge and she had had several convulsions. For fourteen days, feeling afraid that she would have another convulsion, I dared not close my eyes for more than a few minutes at a time.
For three months the doctor continued his attendance and gave various drugs, but the child's ears still discharged. Then as his last resource he advised us to have a consultation, and we accordingly arranged for a specialist to come. After an examination this physician declared there was a diseased bone in the ear and to restore health an operation would be necessary, but he could not guarantee it would be without injury to the ear. Had this been the result it would have meant that the child would be deaf and dumb for the remainder of her life.
While we were undecided what course to take, a friend recommended Christian Science treatment. Up to this moment I had heard of this teaching only casually, having been to two meetings of the Christian Science church some time before. Eventually we sent for a practitioner, and the child's recovery took place almost immediately, as we began to understand that man is God's idea. She is now a strong, healthy girl, and has not had any ear trouble since her healing. Christian Science has helped me in every other sphere of life, both mentally and physically, and I am very grateful for it.— Bradford, England.
