With a heart full of gratitude to God I give my testimony, hoping thereby to help some one. It was in 1907 that the thought kept recurring to me, What is the truth about life? I began to search, and for three years read books on natural science and theology. I visited many churches, but failed to find what I was seeking. For a year before Christian Science was brought to me, my prayer each day was that I might know the truth.
In the summer of 1910 I was taken seriously ill. The four doctors who attended me during the two months I spent in bed did not seem to know what was the matter. One said the trouble was anemia, and others said neuritis, but all failed to help me. I could neither eat nor sleep, and kept getting weaker each day. A Christian Scientist, upon hearing of my condition, sent me two copies of the Sentinel and a pamphlet. From the first reading I felt uplifted, and was soon eating and sleeping and getting stronger every day. Within a short time I was able to go to the readingroom at First Church of Christ, Scientist, of this city, and purchase the book called "Unity of Good" by Mrs. Eddy. Within a few weeks after this, Science and Health was placed in my hands, and the first reading of this book will never be forgotten. I had been a weary wanderer in the desert, hungry and thirsty, and a storehouse of food and drink had been given me; what I had been seeking was found, and in consequence my heart was full of song all the day long.
As a child I had a running abscess in one ear, caused from measles, which had left me deaf in that ear. Through reading Science and Health the deafness disappeared, and chronic bronchitis also was overcome. That spring the doctor told me this ailment had gone as far as it could without breaking down the tissues of the lungs, and I must be very careful; but through the earnest study of Christian Science all the old conditions vanished. In less than two months I was entirely healed, and my healing has been permanent.
